Port San Luis Harbor - Avila Beach

We left Morro Bay around 7:30 this morning. Winds were up to 18 knots as we were untying ourselves from the mooring ball. After untying and as we motored closer to the bar, the winds died down and we had a smooth departure from Morro Bay Harbor.
At 8:30 a.m. we put up the jib while we were still motoring. The wind was directly behind us. The swells were big but far apart coming onto our beam for a while.
Around 9:30 the seas & the winds calmed down. It was pretty much flat. The sun was shining so brightly on the dark blue water. Very beautiful sail!
At 10:00 a.m. Rick thought it would be a good time to fish, so he cast out. No sooner did the hook hit the water there was a fish on! It was a Tuna! So pretty! Rick was SO excited that he hurried to the fishing rod and left me to the helm. Everything fouled up at that point because I was so busy watching him that I had us off course heading for the shore, sails flapping.  After I got my wits about me and Rick reeled the fish in, we were back on course headed to Port San Luis.
We arrived at 11:30 a.m. and dropped an anchor close to Avila Beach.

After we cleaned the fish and the boat, we called Rick’s daughter, Danielle, and told her to meet us at Fat Cat’s Café. It was quite a long dinghy ride from where our boat was!

Harley waiting patiently while the three of us had a late lunch.
We had a nice meal at the Café and then got chauffeured over to Trader Joe’s and to the Post Office. Afterwards we walked around Downtown SLO for a while. It was a perfect day.

Saying goodbye to Danielle at the end of a great day!
Now we are back on our boat plotting out our course for tomorrow. We are sort of undecided what we’ll be doing. We might go to Cojo for one night then to Santa Barbara from there. OR, we may go straight from Santa Barbara from here. We are undecided at the moment. I’m kind of tired and not sure if I am up for an overnight sail.
A neighbor of ours, Jim Bowman, once told me when I was younger, "A marvelous bird is the Pelican, whose beak holds more than his belly can, and I don't see how in the hell he can."  At the time it was quite amusing. :)

Signing off…

I'm wishing we could have kept heading south with you guys, but were cited about going north to get aboard Palayla. We'll talk with you soon. Have fun and carry on!
